Community Spotlight: PJ Walker

How did you first learn about TMPC, and what compelled you to join?
I learned about TMPC through Minister Dr. Anthony Thompson Jr. He invited me to attend church, and the rest was history. I grew up very traditional as I was AME. When I got older, I leaned more toward contemporary churches, and TMPC gives me the best of both worlds. Outside of the fantastic word we receive and the Lord meeting us every Sunday at TMPC, I enjoy the family atmosphere. There's a genuine love for the people we sit next to every Sunday in church.

What has been your favorite TMPC community moment so far?
The 25th anniversary weekend has been my favorite thus far. I have been a member of TMPC for about three years now, but hearing people shape the narrative of how the church started and seeing how it has evolved makes me proud to be a part of something so special.

How has the concept of community factored into your story of navigating life's challenges and growing in faith?
I've come to understand that true community, rooted in Christ, is where I find accountability, growth, and support. It's where I'm covered in prayer, encouraged through the word, and reminded of God's faithfulness as I walk the path He's called for me. That's exactly what I receive from TMPC.

If you could invite someone outside of the church to experience our community, what would you hope they take away?
I hope someone will take away our authenticity and love for God and the fact that the church goes beyond the four walls. TMPC is big on reaching out to the community and making sure that we meet people where they are. That's the true work of God, and I hope that someone will take that away.

And lastly, how can the TMPC community be lifting you in prayer?
I asked that my TMPC family continue praying for me as I navigate life, especially since I am starting a new job. This a new season for me, and I am excited but also nervous. I also ask that TMPC prays that my relationship with God grows stronger.
